The Feeding of High-performance Processor Cores—QuickPath Interconnects and the New I/O Hubs

The Intel family of processor technologies, delivers a new level of performance
in a repartitioned platform. We repartitioned the platform based on the
integration of the memory controller into the processor socket, the QuickPath
Interconnect (link-based architecture), and a scalable I/O subsystem (based on
the IO Hub). This article provides a high-level overview of both the QuickPath
Interconnect and the I/O subsystem of this new generation of platforms.
(The integration of the memory controller into the processor socket is not
discussed in this article.)
